Manchester United has decided to sell £20m young super midfielder

Despite the dire state of their central midfield and his form at Nottingham Forest, Manchester United has made James Garner available for transfer.

Manchester United has decided to part ways with midfielder James Garner.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United valued Garner, 21, between £15 million and £20 million, with Nottingham Forest and Tottenham also interested. Garner has a contract with United until 2024.

Garner, a Manchester United academy graduate, only played 22 minutes during the club’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia due to injury, but he started the friendly against Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford.

The decision to sell Garner is likely to enrage United fans, given the club’s inability to sign a central midfielder.

Erik ten Hag started Scott McTominay and Fred in United’s 2-1 loss to Brighton, and Fred was replaced after 53 minutes, while McTominay’s performance was widely criticized. Ten Hag then rested McTominay for the loss to Brentford but brought him on for Fred with United trailing 4-0 at the break.

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho backed Garner, including him in the 2018 pre-season tour squad and starting him against the San Jose Earthquakes.

Garner made his debut for Crystal Palace under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in February 2019 and has played seven times since.

Last season, the England Under-21 international had a fantastic loan spell at Forest, helping them return to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years.
Brighton and Brentford exposed United’s failure to strengthen their central midfield, and their excessive pursuit of Frenkie de Jong is approaching the 100-day mark.

The club has agreed on a fee of £15 million, which could rise to £20 million, for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot and is in talks with the Frenchman’s mother, Veronique.
