Tottenham Hotspur pushing hard to sign Leicester City’s best midfielder January

“I’m not sure where he fits in,” Tottenham Hotspur said of their pursuit of the 25-year-old playmaker.

Spurs legend Paul Robinson questioned Tottenham’s pursuit of Leicester City’s James Maddison.
Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal both expressed interest in Leicester City’s James Maddison earlier this month, according to Football. London.

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has spoken exclusively to Football Insider about the Spurs’ alleged interest in the player. He stated:

Robinson is right. Manager Antonio Conte does play with two central midfielders that have a defensive nous, unlike Maddison.

However, there always exists a possibility that the manager changes his system to accommodate another player – perhaps a 3-4-1-2. Robinson doesn’t see that happening.

“Would Conte adapt his system to fit in a player like Maddison? I cannot see it. I think he is number 10. As much as I like Maddison, I cannot see him effectively fitting into Conte’s system.”

Spurs sold a number 10 in Dele Alli this January when he was offloaded to Everton. We don’t have a lot of players that fit the profile of a playmaker that plays between the striker and the central midfielders.

Perhaps it is a position we don’t need strengthening in given how less we would have to bank on it. On the contrary, a case can be made that Maddison can inject that creative spark in the team from the middle of the park that our current options lack to some extent.

Playing out wide is a prospect that seems to be harmful to Maddison’s playing time considering the competition he would have there for Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison, and Lucas Mour

It remains to be seen if we pursue the former Norwich City star in the first place – and only then will it make more sense to think about how and where he potentially fits into our team.
