Manchester United may have to compete with Chelsea and Liverpool to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo. And the 20-year-old midfielder has already stated that he would prefer to join United over either of their two Premier League rivals.

Brighton signed Caicedo from the Ecuadorian club Independiente at the start of 2021. The Seagulls then loaned him out to Belgian side Beerschot at the beginning of last season as they attempted to get him ready for life in the Premier League.

But he returned to Sussex in January and went on to star for Brighton during the latter stages of the last campaign. This season, he has started all six of his team’s matches and got his name on the scoresheet when the Seagulls thumped Leicester 5-2 earlier this month.

Caicedo’s performances have brought him to the attention of a whole host of clubs. But during his time with Independiente, he chose the Red Devils as the team he would most like to play for in England. “My dream is to play for Manchester United because I like English football,” he said in 2020. “The pace is very high, and Manchester United is my favorite club.”

It’s not the first time Caicedo’s affection for United has been revealed. He has previously stated that he supports Manchester United because of his countrymen Antonio Valencia and Paul Pogba, who have both played for the 13-time Premier League champions.

“Pogba was always my favorite player as a midfielder,” the Ecuador international said. “Manchester United, and before that Valencia, were always my teams because of Pogba.” He was a winger turned right-back who was strong, quick, and extremely intelligent. He was the ideal Premier League player, and if I can continue to enjoy a career like his, it will be a dream come true.”
