Nottingham Forest, who was just promoted to the Premier League, has begun negotiations with Manchester United about goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is attracting the attention of newly-promoted Premier League side Nottingham Forest, according to football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, who claims that talks to buy the England international has begun.
After briefly taking up the team’s goalkeeping duties in the second half of the 2020/21 season, Henderson dropped down the pecking order at Old Trafford. David de Gea was battling for consistency and had made a few costly errors, prompting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to appoint Henderson as his replacement.
Due to illness, De Gea missed the start of the 2021/22 season, but he quickly recovered and went on to become the team’s first-choice shot-stopper for the remainder of the campaign. Early indications suggest that new manager Erik ten Hag wants to keep the Spaniard, which could mean that Henderson spends most of his time on the bench.
Henderson is searching for regular game time after appearing in just three matches for the Red Devils in the recent season, and a move appears to be on the cards. Newcastle United was apparently interested in signing him on a loan deal in January, but the club was not convinced.
This summer, the Magpies pursued Henderson again and apparently reached an agreement with him on personal terms. They were also willing to pay £15 million to get his signature, but they now appear to be more concerned with upgrading other areas first.
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest has moved in to sign Henderson away from Manchester United, and the goalie is considering joining them as well. According to Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs are discussing an initial loan deal, with Forest having the option of making the move permanent for about £20 million next year.
Henderson would be signed by Nottingham Forest to replace Brice Samba, who has refused to sign a new deal and will be released this summer.
Manchester United has lost a number of players this summer as they prepare for a major revamp. Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Edinson Cavani, and Jesse Lingard have all said their goodbyes to the club, but Anthony Martial and Aaron Wan-futures Bissaka’s remain uncertain. Henderson, a recent academy graduate, appears to be on the move as well.
