But according to Telegraaf, United is set to come back in with another bid worth £76million, rising to £80million, for Antony today (24th August). The 22-year-old is keen to move to Old Trafford, and after effectively going on strike and missing their game against Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday, he has now handed in a transfer request.

It is understood that the former Sao Paulo man has agreed on personal terms on a five-year contract with United until 2027. The report also claims that Antony’s representatives are already on the lookout for a house in the Manchester area in anticipation of his move to Old Trafford.

All that is left to do for the 13-time Premier League champions is to agree on a deal with Ajax. That could be made easier by Antony’s current stance.

The Athletic adds that the player’s representatives have remained in London to get a deal over the line, giving hope that the summer-long transfer saga could soon be at an end. Antony hinted at a possible departure from the club in an interview with De Telegraaf last week. He stated: “What I can say is that I want to make the best decision possible for my family, business partners, and Ajax. In the end, God decides my fate.”

When asked if he could guarantee his place in the Eredivisie, he replied, “No, to be absolutely honest, I can’t.”
