Man Utd is now ready to break the bank just to bring 45-goal star at Old Trafford

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United is really interested in signing Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko this summer.

Bringing in a new source of goals appears to be high on manager Erik ten Hag‘s priority list ahead of the new season, and the talented 19-year-old could be the player tasked with spearheading the Old Trafford revolution.

The Manchester Evening News has revealed that United’s football director John Murtough met Sesko’s agent Elvis Basanovic to evaluate the possibility of a transfer for his client.

Previous reports had claimed that several clubs from across the continent, including Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, were also assessing the Slovenia international’s situation.

It’s believed that Salzburg valued Sesko at around £55 million after he found the back of the net on 10 occasions last season (taking his career tally up to 45) while setting up a further seven strikes as he fired his side to a domestic double.

And Romano has also disclosed how Chelsea has also had a meeting with the teenager’s representatives, stepping up their pursuit of Romelu Lukaku’s successor.

The transfer guru then stated how United has in fact had more than one ‘direct meeting’, though, before revealing there is a third side in the running for Sesko’s signature.

Romano has informed GiveMeSport that Sesko was on United’s wish list ‘even before the arrival of Ten Hag and that he’s ‘highly rated by the scouting team’.

In an interview with GMS, he said: “Man United are really interested. They had this player on the list even before the arrival of Erik ten Hag.

“He’s always been a player highly rated by the scouting team. And so, now it’s a big opportunity, I think, for Man United; they need a striker.”

Sesko is a powerful 6-foot-4 striker who has almost exclusively played through the middle throughout his short senior career.

With Edinson Cavani departing this summer, Mason Greenwood still subject to an ongoing police investigation, and Cristiano Ronaldo making his desire to depart the club clear, signing a forward is likely to be a priority for Ten Hag.
