Liverpool players dominate 2022 PFA Team of the Year

Nine of the 11 players were from last season’s top two clubs, with Chelsea and Manchester United also being represented.

Despite the fact that the Citizens pipped the Reds to the title on the final day of the season, Jurgen Klopp‘s team is the most well-represented, with more than half of the squad hailing from Anfield.

Alisson Becker, defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, midfielder Thiago Alcantara, and forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane all made the list, with Salah taking home the Players’ Player of the Year accolade.

Full-back City players Joao Cancelo, Bernardo Silva, and Kevin De Bruyne made up the trio of manchester city players, but attacking midfielder Phil Foden, who won the Young Player of the Year award for the second season in a row, was left out.

Given that City and Liverpool ended 18 points ahead of the rest of the pack, it’s not unexpected to see the two of them in near-total control of the squad, though Thiago’s inclusion may have raised some eyebrows.

While the Spaniard has had a wonderful season, others in his position, such as West Ham’s Declan Rice, Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse, and Conor Gallagher, who spent the season on loan at Crystal Palace from Chelsea, may feel cheated.
