Diabetes, a common name for diabetes mellitus known as a metabolic disease that is usually responsible for high blood sugar. Insulin is a hormone known to carry sugar from the blood into your cells for either storing it or be used for energy, but with diabetes, none of this happens process occurs effectively because your body will lack its ability to produce enough insulin or the insulin produced cannot be used productively by the body.

Diabetes of types 1 and types 2 are common types of diabetes and the causes of these types vary differently.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the pancreas where insulin is made and destroys the cells in the pancreas.

Type 2 diabetes happens when sugar builds up in the blood due to the body’s resistance to insulin.

Bitter gourd is known for its antidiabetic property which makes it an efficient ingredient for managing blood sugar levels with the help of its three active compounds namely, polypeptide-p, charatin, and vicine. These compounds make bitter gourd an effective remedy and also a good preventive remedy against diabetes because those compounds are known to increase insulin secretion, helps the cell take up sugar molecules, reduce glucose absorption in the body and stimulate the liver and glycogen synthesis.

Bitter gourd as the name implies has a very bitter taste which many people find unpleasant, but still, you can enjoy the benefits of this ingredient by mixing it with other things like cucumber.

  1. Wash the bitter gourds and peel off their skin.
  2. Slit the bitter gourds and remove the contents inside.
  3. Now cut the bitter gourds into small pieces.
  4. Soak the gourds in water for 10 minutes.
  5. Wash the cucumber and peel it off.
  6. Cut the cucumber into small pieces.
  7. Cut the green apple into small pieces.
  8. Put all the ingredients in a juicer to extract the juice or you can grind it all and strain the juice.
  9. Add ½ of lemon juice.
  10. Drink this once daily on an empty stomach in order to control your sugar level.
