Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, said that the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar would be a special one. Fans will be able to watch two or three matches a day thanks to matches taking place at eight top-notch venues adjacent to one another, according to him. He added that he anticipates 1.5–2 million supporters to travel to Qatar and 5 billion people to watch the matches.
As part of the Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg, Infantino was taking part in a session titled “Countdown to the Greatest Show on Earth.” On stage, he had Al Rihla, the official World Cup ball. Given that it was produced specifically for the Qatar Economic Forum and with the name of the forum imprinted on it, he classified it as a unique ball.
With a total of 23 million requests for tickets and 5 million for the final, he claimed that there was significant demand for ticket sales.
“I believe that the entire nation here, as well as an increasing amount of the entire area, is really tuning in for this World Cup…
Since I’ve been in this line of work for a few decades, I have never witnessed such a high level of preparation for a major event as this. And we are preparing to welcome two million people here in Qatar, day by day, more and more, he added.
He emphasized that everything is being done to provide enough lodging for the visiting fans and declared that having enough accommodations for them is not a concern.
Infantino stated that his first trip to Qatar after being elected FIFA President in 2016 was to address the issue of workers’ rights in World Cup venues. He pointed out that a lot has changed since then, including the elimination of the kafala system, the implementation of minimum salaries, and rules to combat the heat, among other things.
“We in Europe took hundreds of years to get to where we are now in terms of the social impact for the people…we are here and we are together and the cooperation is really amazing and we want to make sure this stands after the World Cup,” he continued.
