Argentina international Dybala, 28, joined AS Roma on a three-year deal earlier this week. The forward represents something of a coup for former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho as he looks to mount a Serie A title bid this season. And it appears Dybala’s switch has gone down a storm with fans, too.

In fact, the ex-Juventus star’s move has proved so popular, that he’s broken Ronaldo‘s record for the most shirts sold in Italy in one day.

Although the report did not contain any official figures in terms of jerseys sold, the measurements are based on how many respective shirts each club shifted on the day after the announcement of either player.

Roma fans will be hoping Dybala can produce similar mind-boggling numbers on the pitch. Although he is a five-time Serie A winner with Juventus, he has struggled with injuries in recent seasons.

Nevertheless, he made 29 appearances in the league last season, scoring 10 goals. Roma fought off interest from a host of elite clubs, including United and Arsenal, to secure his signature.

They even offered him club legend Francesco Totti’s iconic no.10 shirt, but he turned it down, opting for no.21 instead. “I spoke to the general manager and he asked if I wanted to take number 10, which of course is so significant here because of everything Francesco Totti did,” he revealed in his first interview as a Roma player.
