Cristiano Ronaldo tells Manchester United what he wants after a lengthy discussion

Cristiano Ronaldo has told Manchester United that he wants to be ‘freed from contract’ after talks with the Premier League club failed to persuade him otherwise – but his next club remains unknown.

He was accompanied by his agent, Jorge Mendes, when he returned to United for the first time this summer after missing the club’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia owing to family obligations.

Those discussions, though, appear to have had no effect on Ronaldo’s decision to leave.

The Mail report the Portugal superstar wants to be freed from the final year of his £360,000-a-week contract.

United’s stance has not changed and they do not want to sell, nor have they received any enquires.

His list of potential destinations is running thin, with the likes of Chelsea and Bayern Munich ruling themselves out of the race.

Atletico Madrid has shown an interest, but there has been a staunch backlash from their fans.

The Ronaldo story is sure to continue this summer, but he is expected to remain professional.

Following his discussions with the club, he completed medical tests and then exercised on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, he watched his colleagues play in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Wrexham.

On Saturday, the Red Devils will play a friendly against Atletico Madrid, followed by a game against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday. He is expected to play in the latter game at Old Trafford.
