Bayern Munich ready to break the bank to sign Manchester City’s super midfielder

Bayern Munich is ‘considering a move for Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who could leave in 2023.

Ilkay Gundogan‘s future at Manchester City is uncertain because his contract expires in 2023 and no new deal is on the horizon. The 32-year-old says he’s willing to stay beyond the summer if he’s guaranteed playing time, but 90min’s Graeme Bailey reports that Bayern Munich is ‘considering a move if he doesn’t commit his future to City.

Gundogan has made 268 appearances in all competitions since joining Borussia Dortmund in 2016, scoring 51 goals with 34 assists. The German international has mostly been a regular under Pep Guardiola this season, making 15 appearances across the board, but Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva are preferred in midfield.

90min says City is keen to extend Gundogan’s deal, but Bayern will be an attractive proposition. The 32-year-old hasn’t played in Germany for seven years but could be keen on joining the Bundesliga champions if he’s no longer a regular in England. Bayern can agree on a pre-contract deal in January too, so City is running out of time to tie him down.

Juventus and Barcelona have been linked with Gundogan and can also agree on a deal in January to sign him for free next summer, so might this be the German midfielder’s last year at Manchester City
