Kevin de Bruyne loses out on the PFA award to Man City teammate Phil Foden

For the second year in a row, Foden wins the title, but De Bruyne, a Manchester City teammate, is denied a third consecutive PFA Player of the Year accolade.
The PFA Young Player of the Year title went to Phil Foden, but Manchester City teammate Kevin De Bruyne lost out to Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

With a third successive victory, De Bruyne would become the first player to win three PFA Player of the Year accolades. With 15 goals and eight assists, the City talisman had another spectacular season, finishing as the Blues’ top scorer and assist provider.

The honor, however, went to Salah of Liverpool, who finished the season as the Premier League’s joint-top scorer with 23 goals and 13 assists. The Egypt international was one of three Reds on the shortlist, which also included Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk, as well as Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur and Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United.
If De Bruyne wants to become the first player to win the award for a record third time, he will have to beat out Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, and Cristiano Ronaldo. Salah will now be vying for a third award, having drawn level with De Bruyne after winning the award for the first time in 2018.

The awards were announced on Thursday night, and City had a winner. To go along with his Premier League Young Player of the Season honor, Foden won the Young Player award.
The 22-year-old has won the PFA award for the second year in a row, becoming the first player to do so since Dele Alli in 2016 and 2017. Foden scored nine goals and added five assists to win his fourth Premier League trophy.

Foden won the accolade ahead of England teammates Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Conor Gallagher, and Reece James. In an all-English line-up, Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey was also nominated.
