Manchester United fans in celebration as club in negotiations with £43m star

Manchester United have boosted their hopes of landing Cody Gakpo as ‘negotiations are already advanced’ with the PSV Eindhoven star ahead of a potential switch to Old Trafford, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport.

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag will be handed the opportunity to strengthen his squad when the winter window opens for business at the turn of the year.

According to sportpage.co.uk, Manchester United has started working on a move for Gakpo after the hierarchy gave the green light to head to the negotiating table.

The report suggests the Red Devils are in pole position to swoop for the PSV attacker despite additional interest coming from Newcastle United and Arsenal, while Real Madrid has also got their hands on positive feedback from scouts.

Romano has revealed that Gakpo remains a priority target for Manchester United, who are planning to make a £43million bid when the transfer window reopens after the Dutchman has been identified as an ideal replacement for the departed Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 23-year-old has already admitted that he would consider a move to Old Trafford, while PSV director of football Marcel Brands has claimed that the Eredivisie giants are preparing to offload their talisman next month.

Romano understands that Manchester United are in the market for Ajax attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus as well as Gakpo, although their interest in the former has not been firmed up yet.

The respected Italian journalist is aware that it is a different situation with Gakpo as productive discussions have been held.

Romano told GiveMeSport: “At the moment, for Kudus, they are not in advanced negotiations, including on the player side.

“But, with Gakpo, negotiations are already advanced on the player’s side but not between clubs, as of now.
