Jose Mourinho battle with Ligue 1 giants to sign Manchester United super defender

Jose Mourinho wants a center-back signed up before the end of the transfer window on 1st September and Roma is considering several names

Eric Bailly is one of the names on their shortlist but Roma is considering moves for several other players at the moment.

Dan-Axel Zagadou and Japhet Tanganga are two of the defenders the Serie A giants are tracking at this stage of the window.

However, the financials of the deal are a major stumbling block for the Serie A giants at the moment.

Bailly is on a €5m per year contract at Old Trafford and Manchester United also wants a significant loan fee if they agree to such a deal.

Fulham, Sevilla, Monaco, and Marseille are some other clubs that are interested in snapping up the center-back this summer.

The Portuguese signed Bailly when he was the Manchester United manager and remains a firm admirer of the player.

Manchester United is also open to letting him go as he is possibly the fifth-choice center-back in the squad at the moment.

But according to Italian daily La Repubblica, Bailly is the player Mourinho would prefer to sign before the window closes on 1st September.

And also according to a report by French publication L’Equipe, Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco are interested in signing Ivorian center-back Eric Bailly from Manchester United. The 28-year-old defender has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and is eager to move on this summer in search of regular game time.

Eric Bailly moved to Manchester United from Villarreal in 2016, but except for his first season in England, he has largely been used off the bench. Recurring injury issues have not helped his case either, with the likes of Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, and Raphael Varane, all above the Ivory Coast international in the pecking order.

Manchester United have also signed Ajax center-back Lisandro Martinez this summer, who debuted for the Red Devils in their opening day 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League. This has left Bailly as possibly the fifth-choice center-back at Erik ten Hag’s disposal.
