Liverpool preparing to tie the Portuguese forward a new deal this summer

After finalizing their incoming business this summer, Liverpool hopes to sign Diogo Jota to a new contract.

According to The Mirror, that is. They assert that Julian Ward, Liverpool’s new sporting director, is now planning to focus on “securing the future” of Jota.

Ward will work to complete the extensions for Harvey Elliott, Joe Gomez, and Naby Keita in addition to the Portuguese forward.

Gomez is expected to be the most “difficult” of the four. The center-back allegedly wants more playing time in order to increase his chances of making England’s World Cup roster.

It’s a noteworthy quartet mentioned here from the perspective of Liverpool. With the exception of Keita, they are not players whose contracts are about to expire.

In the form of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, Liverpool does have a few of those. Both should be The Reds‘ top priorities as they enter the last year of the contract.

Despite this, it makes some sense to renew Elliott at this point. Although the 19-year-old is far from a regular on the first team, his standing in the group is much better than it was when he initially joined in 2019.

Even though Elliott still has four years left on his contract, it’s wise to make sure things are amicable before his light shines even more brightly.
