David de Gea has been chosen Manchester United‘s Players’ Player of the Year, despite the fact that the rest of the club was not.

De Gea has won the accolade for his outstanding individual season. Last season, De Gea’s future at Old Trafford was in doubt, but he bounced back this season to reclaim the No. 1 spot.

Despite his colleagues ahead of him often underperforming, the Spaniard started all one of United’s 38 Premier League games this season and was a fantastic goalkeeper. At United, De Gea has already won four Player of the Year accolades.

After some outstanding performances, De Gea was named Premier League Player of the Month for January 2022, becoming the first goalkeeper to win the award since Southampton‘s Fraser Forster in February 2016.

De Gea was widely regarded as United’s greatest player despite only keeping eight clean sheets in the Premier League last season. The goalkeeper routinely won points for United on his own, and he was frequently responsible for averting embarrassing defeats.

De Gea is almost expected to start the next season as Erik ten Hag‘s No. 1 goalkeeper after an exceptional campaign. De Gea’s United contract runs out in the summer of 2023.
