Top midfielder rejects several clubs to stay at Liverpool

According to GOAL, James Milner, a seasoned midfielder for Liverpool, turned down repeated invitations to sign a one-year contract extension.

In the latter stages of his career, the 36-year-old could have left the Reds for MLS or his former teams Newcastle United and Aston Villa, but he has chosen to stay with Liverpool.

James Milner has been a Red for seven years after arriving from Manchester City in 2015, but it all began 13 years earlier when he made his Premier League debut at the age of just 16.

Prior to Leeds United’s surrender to relegation in 2004 and Milner’s joining Newcastle United, Milner made his name playing for his hometown side, Leeds United.

After 94 games, he received a permanent transfer to Villa, where he scored in a 2-1 Carling Cup Final loss to Manchester United.

He was ultimately traded to Manchester City for the then-astronomical sum of £26 million, and he went on to win two Premier League championships, an FA Cup, and a League Cup.

He sets the tone for this team with his skill and attitude since “his professionalism is the benchmark for any athlete,” according to Klopp.

“Last season, we ran the longest campaign imaginable, and Millie just grew stronger, better, and more impactful with time.”

“Since something cannot be replaced, all we want is the same from him again. We still need that, and he can still do it, Klopp remarked.

I’m thankful that he returned our call and agreed to extend his outstanding career by one more year for us. Continued later
