Newcastle United has received a new cash injection from its Saudi-backed owners.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe’s January transfer ambitions have been strengthened by a £70 million cash injection from the club’s Saudi-backed owners. The consortium, which includes the Saudi Public Investment Fund, PCP Capital, and RB Sports and Media, announced on Wednesday that they have increased their investment in the Magpies to more than £450 million.
Newcastle’s January plans will most certainly benefit from the new money, with Howe and sports director Dan Ashworth expected to be active in the transfer market. Express Sport has chosen four players on whom the money could be spent.
Armando Broja
Newcastle signed Alexander Isak in the summer but Howe might believe he needs more attacking reinforcements. Isak is not meant to play until after the World Cup, while Callum Wilson’s struggles with injuries are well-documented.
The extra cash injection could allow Newcastle to sign Chelsea striker Armando Broja. The Blues wanted close to £40m in the summer window but the Albania international has struggled for starts under Thomas Tuchel and new boss Graham Potter.
Broja could seek a departure from Stamford Bridge if he is not guaranteed game time. The 21-year-old would certainly find more minutes at Newcastle.
Newcastle tried to sign Leicester playmaker James Maddison in August but to no avail. Wide-ranging reports claimed that two bids were made for the England World Cup hopeful, only to be firmly rejected by the Foxes.
Since then, Leicester has endured a tough campaign and has only recently hit form. Three-consecutive Premier League wins should give Brendan Rodgers hope that he can keep his best players, and avoid a similar scenario to the one that saw Wesley Fofana demand an exit from Chelsea before the summer transfer deadline

Norwegian wonderkid Andreas Schjelderup has been linked with Newcastle in recent months. The creative attacker – who can play anywhere across a front line – is the latest highly-rated talent to come off Norway’s production line.
Another player who Newcastle reportedly tried to sign in the summer, Yannick Carrasco could be the subject of rekindled interest from the Magpies in the new year. Reports in Spain suggest that Atletico Madrid needs to raise funds following their shock exit from the Champions League.
