Man United lost 1-0 to Atletico Madrid in their final pre-season friendly before the start of the new Premier League season, and here are the player ratings.
David de Gea
Not many saves to make but played out from the back well. Excellent awareness to rush off his line and deny Matheus Cunha a chance at goal. Little chance with the goal. 6
Didn’t see much of the ball but defended well and coped with the high intensity. Offered a threat going forward but showed Joao Felix too much space for the goal. 5
Harry Maguire
Subdued attacks and offered a threat from set pieces. Made some vital blocks as the game went on. 7
Victor Lindelof
Grew into the game and made a vital recovery tackle in the box. 6
Tyrell Malacia
Great in possession and kept his cool playing out from the back. He deserves to be starting against Brighton next weekend. 8
His energy and tenacity were crucial in midfield but he struggled with his distributional play. 6
Fred
A typical performance of his before his dismissal. Selfless grit and determination coupled with some fine interceptions and tackles but was sent off for two yellows. 5
Bruno Fernandes
Didn’t get on the ball enough and when he did was unable to carve out any real opportunities. 5
Anthony Elanga
Better from him but still not quite enough. He drew some fouls with his forward runs but didn’t have much joy in the final third. 6
Marcus Rashford
Another solid outing at the end of a successful summer. Made intelligent runs and played with confidence. 6
Anthony Martial
He should have scored when through on goal but another bright display overall. Will lead the line for United at the start of the season, and maybe even throughout all of it. 7
Subs
Donny van de Beek
Played in his favored attacking berth but didn’t get on the ball enough despite making some good runs. 6
Christian Eriksen
A magician at work. Made an instant impact with his delivery from deep and gave a taste of the quality he can bring to this side. 7
Facundo Pellistri
Wasted a great chance to score in the final ten minutes and gave away a cheap free-kick. He needs another loan but was unlucky to be taken off again. 5
