Manchester United forward set to return to the club following an unsuccessful loan spell

Sevilla president Jose Castro has confirmed that the club will not convert Anthony Martial‘s loan from Manchester United into a permanent transfer this summer.

After battling for playing time at Old Trafford in the first part of the season, the French striker joined the LaLiga side on loan in January.

Because of the favor for Cristiano Ronaldo and other forwards, Martial only appeared in eight Premier League games, scoring one goal.

He has struggled with injuries and has failed to win over the fans in Spain, scoring only once in 12 outings.

Sevilla will no longer sign the France international on a permanent basis because they no longer believe he is worth the 40% of his £240,000 weekly wage they give him.

‘Anthony Martial will return to Man United,’ Castro claimed, according to The Sun.

‘We put a lot of money into him, but it didn’t work out.’

‘He also suffered injuries, so we’re not going to sign him on a long-term contract.’

Martial must now persuade United’s new manager, Erik ten Hag, that he can resurrect his career and earn a starting spot.

His struggles in Spain have further added to Martial’s downfall as the most expensive teenage acquisition in football history.

As a promising 19-year-old from Monaco, Martial joined United for £36 million.

He’s now 26, and his career highlights include scoring 23 goals in the 2019-20 season and winning the FA Cup and Europa League.

Overall, though, Martial has fallen short of his early promise, as evidenced by Sevilla’s rejection to sign him permanently.
