Manchester United hope to bolster their attacking options by adding Benjamin Sesko at the end of the season.
According to the Telegraph, the Premier League heavyweights have signed gifted RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko to prepare for life after Cristiano Ronaldo.
Since breaking into RB Salzburg’s first team last season, the 19-year-old attacker has been on Manchester United’s radar. Sesko is recognized as a gifted player with the potential to become a world-class player.
German outfit RB Leipzig signed the player at the start of the season and loaned him back to Salzburg for the remainder of the season.
The Slovenian center-forward has six goals and three assists across all competitions this season and it will be interesting to see whether the Red Devils can agree on a fee with the German outfit for him.
Leipzig has a history of selling key players for the right price and therefore Manchester United will fancy their chances of landing Sesko in the summer. It seems unlikely that a move will materialize midway through the season.
Erik ten Hag is in desperate need of attacking reinforcements. Currently, Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford are his only goalscoring options. The 37-year-old will leave when his contract expires in the summer and Rashford cannot be expected to lead the line every week.
Furthermore, the England international is much better suited to the role of a left-sided forward. Bringing in Sesko could allow Rashford to operate on the left. The 19-year-old would complete United’s front three. Ten Hag has already signed Antony for the right-forward role.
The Manchester United manager has a reputation for developing young talents and he showed that at Ajax. He could be the man to unlock Sesko’s potential and help him improve.
A transfer to Old Trafford is also likely to be appealing to the player. He will want to demonstrate his abilities at the greatest level, and United is undoubtedly one of the most powerful clubs in the world.
According to the Telegraph, Sesko might cost more than £40 million this summer. It remains to be seen whether Leipzig is willing to sell him, especially as he has yet to play for them.
