England player Harry Maguire is marrying childhood girlfriend Fern Hawkins in a grandiose fantasy wedding in a French chateau on Saturday.
The Chateau de Varennes in the south of France, which has been named one of the top 10 wedding sites in the world, is where the Manchester United captain is throwing the lavish celebration.
The couple had a low-key registry office ceremony in Crewe, Cheshire last month to provide a UK marriage certificate. But the French chateau will be the perfect wedding venue for mum-of-two Fern, who celebrated her arrival in France with her bridesmaids – including England keeper Jordan Pickford’s wife – on Thursday night.
Harry, 29, is thought to have spent over a quarter of a million pounds to make sure his family, friends, and visitors at the ceremony had an outstanding day.
The breathtaking Burgundy property boasts its own chapel, and vast grounds, and was chosen by CNN as one of the top 10 wedding locations in the world.
During a vacation in Marbella, Fern’s bridesmaid Megan Davison, 26, and Harry’s sister Daisy, 21, also joined her for her hen night.
In pink and white boxes with “a fancy bow” on top, the happy couple handed out invitations to their guests. Daisy is the maid of honor, and the bridesmaids’ outfits will be in shades of ivory, rose, pink, and purple.
Following their arrival at the nearby Dijon airport at around 1.30 pm local time on Thursday, the groomsmen of the bridal party engaged in some kickaround in the opulent castle grounds.
After traveling for about an hour, they arrived at the chateau, where security screens had been installed across the property, in time for a Thursday night family gathering.
According to a source, “They are both really pleased to be having their big day here and having all their loved ones present for the wedding.” It is the most romantic environment conceivable.
Following a get-together at the upscale Dakota Hotel in Manchester’s downtown, Fern, 27, hosted a spectacular bridal brunch at the Foodwell restaurant in Salford.
