Erik ten Hag wants Harry Maguire off the Manchester United transfer list.
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has had a difficult time under Erik ten Hag, but that could change next year after being placed on the transfer list.
Erik ten Hag, according to sources, has unceremoniously thrown Harry Maguire on the transfer list.
The defender has had a nightmare season under the new management at Manchester United, where he just carries the armband in the name. The Red Devils are anticipated to wipe down their roster over the summer in order to bankroll Ten Hag targets.
And that will include Maguire, who is the top player billed on the transfer list while the club accepts that they will have to take a huge loss on the £80million star, according to The Guardian. It is unlikely anyone will pay anywhere near the fee that United splashed out when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got his man in 2019 from Leicester
Furthermore, his £190,000-a-week wages will also struggle to attract suitors after slipping into fourth-choice center-back under Ten Hag. Nevertheless, Ten Hag is keen to get Maguire out as soon as possible to bring in a suitable replacement.
Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are the No. 1 pairing this year while Victor Lindelof appears to have landed the spot as back-up after appearing in place of the injured Varane against Aston Villa last weekend.
Maguire has had a nightmare year after desperately falling out of form during a period where United capitulated in the Premier League, first under Solskjaer and then Ralf Rangnick.
And the signs were showing at the start of this season when the 29-year-old started in both matches against Brighton and Brentford – which were lost 2-1 and 4-0. Since then, Maguire has started just once in the Premier League.
Despite his dramatic decline, he still retains Gareth Southgate’s trust and has been called up to the England squad ahead of the World Cup this winter. While his time at Old Trafford has been shoddy at best, Maguire has performed well in the Three Lions set-up with three at the back.
