In less than a week, the new Premier League season will get underway, and Manchester United still needs to bolster its attack and midfield.
In terms of the offensive, Antony, a Brazilian international who is also on Liverpool’s radar, is the player most frequently mentioned (FI).
According to Goal.com, Man United has now submitted an offer worth more than 60 million euros (£50.3million+) to hire the services of Antony.
However, the news source has mentioned that Ajax is playing hardball and are not prepared to offload their prized asset for a fee of fewer than 80 million euros.
The Dutch giants have lost a number of key players this summer, including Lisandro Martinez, who completed his move to Old Trafford recently. Therefore, they would not allow Antony to leave for cheap.
In all fairness, Ajax did play hardball with United over the transfer of Martinez and we did end up paying a lot more than the market value to lure the Argentine.
Now, we may have to pay over the odds for Antony as well. I understand Ten Hag’s preference to lure former players but why have we not targeted alternatives is beyond me.
The squad is by no means ready for the new season and Man Utd must push to get the key signings done at the earliest.
