Liverpool fans celebrate as legend midfielder makes his 600th premier league appearance

After reaching a significant personal milestone in Saturday’s win over Southampton, James Milner is focused on continuing to contribute to the team.

The Liverpool vice-captain came off the bench at Anfield to register the 600th Premier League appearance of his career.

He became only the fourth player to reach that tally in the era on a day when the Reds signed off for the World Cup break with a 3-1 victory secured by goals from Roberto Firmino and Darwin Nunez (two).

“It’s a lot of games and a long time,” Milner told Liverpoolfc.com post-match.

“Seeing people like Ben Doak come in and how well he played the other day, it’s pleasing to see that and that brings back a few memories as well. I remember being his age doing that as well.

“It’s a long time, you need a lot of luck, I’ve been very fortunate to play with a lot of very good players and managed to learn from those and the managers. It’s great to be still playing and hopefully contributing as much as I can at a club like Liverpool.

“[Gareth Barry’s record of 653] is a long way off. You know me, game by game and I just want to keep working and contributing as much as I can to this football club.”
