Leicester City light up fresh move to sign Atalanta speed winger in January

Leicester City is looking to resurrect their January deal for Atalanta winger Jeremie Boga.

Talks for a deal for the 25-year-old fell down at the 11th hour on deadline day last summer, but Leicester is increasingly optimistic that an agreement can be reached in the coming weeks.

The Ivory Coast international, formerly of Chelsea, has fallen out of favor at Atalanta, who are eager to unload him in order to reduce their salary cost.

Ideally, they want an obligation to buy included in negotiations.

Manager Brendan Rodgers had turned Leicester’s fortunes around prior to the break for the World Cup and is hoping to secure funds to strengthen his squad after the club took out a £46m loan secured against the payments due from Chelsea following defender Wesley Fofana’s sale last summer.

Rodgers is keen to add a full-back and another midfielder if possible.

Boga, who was born in France, began his career with Chelsea, where he spent three loan periods before joining Sassuolo for £3.5 million.

He was signed by Atalanta after impressing with 18 goals in 99 games for Sassuolo, but he has struggled to adapt and duplicate his success.
