Erik ten Hag list out six Man Utd players to be given long-term contract after full assessment

Manchester United‘s contracts for David de Gea, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Fred, and Marcus Rashford are all coming to an end.

Erik ten Hag has stated that Manchester United would extend the contracts of five players who are nearing the conclusion of their contracts.

David de Gea, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Fred, and Marcus Rashford are all technically out of contract on June 30, but United has the option to extend each player’s deal for another year.

Ten Hag stated that United intends to sign new long-term contracts with select players, including first-teamers Dalot, Shaw, and Rashford, who are all in their 20s. Barcelona is interested in Dalot, and in August, Paris Saint-Germain met Rashford’s brother and agent, Dwaine Maynard.

De Gea, 32, has impressed this season but Ten Hag has been coy on his plans for the Spaniard while Fred turns 30 in March.

“We are talking with them to extend their contracts but we are in control because on all the players we have options and we will exercise these options,” Ten Hag clarified. When asked specifically about De Gea, he reiterated: “As I say, we have options and we will do them.

“You can see it this way (that United is vulnerable due to the short duration of each deal) but if the decision is not that good we have other options.”

Last week, PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi confirmed the club’s interest in signing Rashford for free in the summer even though there is no chance of United releasing the England forward with a one-year option on his contract.

When asked how convinced he was United could keep Rashford, Ten Hag replied: “I can’t answer that question. He has to make a decision and the only what we can do is show him that this is the best club to be in and that is what we can do.

“And it has to do with the culture of the club, but it also has to do with the way we work, working together, it has to do with the way we play, the way we train, are we providing the right environment to progress further?”

“So, if we do that, if we can [speak] about our objectives and how we want to realize our ambitions, and so on, similar discussions will take place with him.” It is then up to him to make the decision. He’ll be here for a year and a half.”
