Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken out about the royal family’s and the late Queen Elizabeth’s support following the death of his son Angel in April of this year.

Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken out about the touching letter he received from Queen Elizabeth II and her family following the death of his newborn son.

On April 18, the 37-year-old Real Madrid and Portugal captain was preparing to welcome his son during the labor of his 28-year-old girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez.

Unfortunately, the couple’s infant, Angel, died during birth, but his twin sister Bella survived.

Following the heartbreaking news, the sportsman was sent a wave of support from football fans and even the Royal Family.

During an interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV, the player shared how taken aback he was to receive a special letter in the post.

He said: “I never ever expect that. Never. I have the opportunity now to say, all English community, thank you a lot for that, kind of that they held with me.

“Not only Liverpool but all of England. I received a letter from The Queen’s family as well … And, [that] surprised me a lot…”

“This is why I say, I respect a lot, the English community, English people,” Ronaldo continued. “Because they’ve been very kind to me. And in that difficult moment of my life… [the support] was spectacular.

“I should thank them directly to the camera for how they treated me, my family, and myself at that tough time. Thank you very much “Cristiano conveyed his appreciation. “Thank you to everyone in the English community who assisted me at that time.”

When he and Georgina went home from the hospital, the footballer revealed how difficult it was to give the tragic news to the rest of his children.

Cristiano said that he had a poignant and emotional conversation with his eldest son, who has the same name, and they cried together.

Eventually, after the little ones kept asking where the baby was, especially after seeing Georgina with a bump for months, the couple decided to share the truth with them too.

“After one week I say: ‘Let’s be upfront and let’s be honest with the kids, let’s say that, Angel, which is the name, they go to Heaven.’

“That’s a better way to put it. And the kids always get it; at the table, they say, ‘Daddy, I did this for Angel,’ and point to the sky “the participant added

Cristiano and Georgina have two further children, and the sportsman has three more born through surrogacy.

After their baby son died, the star said that it was his partner that encouraged him to return to football.
