According to reports, Liverpool is preparing to add two players who might drastically change their midfield choices.
A lot of players for the Reds are either becoming older or are no longer good enough, thus the team really needs to replace them in the middle of the field.
Their pursuit of Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund is as public a secret as one can have in football. This week, TNT Sports reported that Liverpool is also interested in signing Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.
Between the two players, this would be more than enough to give Liverpool a brand-new look. Bellingham is nineteen, while Bruno is approaching his peak – turning twenty-five next week. That would be the midfield sorted for half a decade.
The outlay would be huge. But, then again, it’s going to have to be. With the money it requires to overhaul a key area of the squad, these two players could be the best options out there.
Most Liverpool supporters would agree that Bellingham would be the dream midfield signing.
A generational talent, the timing would appear to be right for the teenager to become the Red’s standard-bearer for the next decade.
But the reality is that Bellingham wouldn’t be enough. That might sound strange for a player who would cost in excess of £100m, but it’s the truth.
Liverpool has let their midfield age to a degree that more than one top-quality replacement is now needed.
In the Premier League right now, the ideal player to come in would surely be Bruno. The Brazilian has impressed enormously in his 10 months at Newcastle and should be playing for a Champions League club.
Of course, the Magpies will point to the league table and insist that they could be such a club very, very soon.
They may be right about that. But it’s still a long shot that Newcastle will qualify for the competition this season.
As a result, Bruno could perhaps be tempted to make the switch to a more historically prestigious club. With the offer of a starting spot at Liverpool on offer, as well as the promise of working with some of his countrymen, maybe that could be enough to tempt him.
Assuming, for a moment, that Liverpool could bring both Bruno and Bellingham in, their midfield worries would be all but over. Imagine those two as the engine of Jurgen Klopp’s new, 4-4-2 system – magic. Get it done, Reds. No more messing around.
