Antony joins Manchester United, becoming the fourth most expensive acquisition in Premier League history.
Manchester United has signed Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax on a contract until 2027, with an option for an extra year.
Man United had previously agreed to sign the 22-year-old for a set fee of £80.6 million, with a further £4.2 million in add-ons, making him the fourth most expensive signing in Premier League history.
Antony will join Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, and Casemiro at Old Trafford this summer, with medical and personal terms completed.
“This is an incredible moment in my career to be joining one of the most iconic clubs in the world,” he said on United’s official website.
Antony scored 25 times in 82 appearances at Ajax and is now looking forward to a reunion with Erik ten Hag, who left the Dutch giants over the summer to take charge of Man Utd.
“Playing under Erik ten Hag at Ajax was perfect for me and my development,” added Antony.
“His style of football and coaching brings out the best in me, and I am excited by what he has told me about his plans and ambitions in Manchester.
“My time at Ajax was amazing, and I will be eternally grateful for the trust they placed in me, but now I am ready for the next challenge, and I can’t wait to join my new team-mates and contribute to Manchester United’s success.”
Former Netherlands international Marco van Basten is skeptical that Antony will be a success this summer at the club.
“Is Anthony worth €100 million?” Van Basten told Ziggo Sport before of the deal’s announcement, “No, by far no.”
“Antony has yet to demonstrate much.” Of course, he had a few successful games. However, in the last two years, his efficiency has been low.”
