Newcastle United firmly holds hands-on £2.5m Sunderland wonderkid

Excitement and interest in teenage Sunderland wonder Chris Rigg has grown in recent weeks, with the midfielder linked with a move to Merseyside, with both Liverpool and Everton interested in the youngster, as well as Newcastle United.

Despite being only 15 years old, Rigg is a fixture for the Black Cats’ under-21 side and has participated in several first-team training sessions. Rigg has been actively monitored by scouts from some of the country’s top clubs throughout his remarkable displays for the under-21s, with the only question regarding his future being where and when not if.

Many believe him to be Sunderland’s best academy prospect since Jordan Henderson, who made the switch to the red half of Merseyside in 2011, something Rigg if reports are to be believed, could replicate.

However, Newcastle offers an interesting and more than tempting alternative for the England under-16s captain, who has also represented his nation at the under-17s level.

Rigg is a die-hard Magpies fan, and the chance to stay closer to home, especially at such a young age, would undoubtedly appeal to him and his family.

Sunderland, on the other hand, is unlikely to let the left-footed midfield wizard depart cheaply, and is anticipated to demand at least £2.5 million for the rising star.
