Eddie Howe included in list of five Premier league bosses targeted for top national jobs after World Cup

Glenn Hoddle has supported Howe as one of the two primary prospects to succeed Gareth Southgate when the Three Lions manager decides to go aside. Southgate’s contract is set to expire after Euro 2024, and his immediate plans could rely on England’s World Cup quarter-final against France.

Howe has developed as one of the Premier League‘s most skilled coaches, and at 43, he still has opportunities for improvement. His early work at Bournemouth was typified by his ability to take Newcastle from the relegation zone to third place in the table in 15 months.

He looks to be the obvious successor to Southgate, given that his popularity with his players and mild-mannered management style is not too far removed from the current England boss. But it remains to be seen when that will take place, and whether he can be lured away from the superb job he has done with the Magpies.
