4-3-3: Liverpool XI vs Tottenham Hotspur as Nunez & Salah On The Flanks

On Sunday, Liverpool head to north London to face Antonio Conte‘s Tottenham Hotspur in search of all three points in the Premier League.

The Reds capitalized on their first opportunity to avenge their 1-2 loss to Leeds United last weekend, defeating Napoli in the Champions League at Anfield on Tuesday night, with Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez scoring late goals.

The victory broke the Serie A leaders’ unbeaten run in the current season, but Jurgen Klopp and co. fell short of the four-goal cushion required to finish as Group A victors. Nonetheless, the latest Champions League victory should give Klopp’s team some confidence heading into the final few games before the World Cup break.

Liverpool Team News

Jordan Henderson missed the win over Napoli in the Champions League but has been passed fit for Sunday’s clash.

James Milner was forced off in the 48th minute of the Reds’ Champions League clash with Napoli after taking a blow to the head and will be absent following concussion protocols.

Diogo Jota, Arthur Melo, and Luis Diaz are long-term absentees for Liverpool, while the game against Tottenham will come too soon for Joel Matip.

football formations

Goalkeeper

Alisson Becker is regarded as one of, if not the best, shot-stoppers in world football. The Brazilian should come up big for his side on Sunday when called upon.

Defense

Due to inconsistent performances and results, Jurgen Klopp has been toying with Liverpool’s formation this season. He reverted to a tried and true 4-3-3 shape against Napoli and won 2-0, so the German manager is likely to remain with it against Tottenham.

Ibrahima Konate returned to the Liverpool starting lineup in midweek after recovering from a thigh injury, adding steadiness to an otherwise unstable backline. Virgil van Dijk looked much more secure and relaxed against Napoli with Konate in central defense.
