Liverpool is ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.
The 19-year-old Golden Boy 2022 nominee, who has 15 England caps, is regarded as one of Europe’s best midfielders and has been linked with Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Real Madrid.
United and Liverpool are thought to have the best chances of signing Bellingham, but according to The Telegraph, Jurgen Klopp’s team is now leading the race, with the German manager making no secret of his admiration for the player.
Bellingham joined Dortmund from his hometown club Birmingham City in 2020 and has scored 13 goals in 99 Bundesliga games.
But the Englishman, who will almost certainly be heading to Qatar in November for the World Cup, played down talk of a move this week, feeling it would be disrespectful to Dortmund.
He said: ‘[Dortmund] have done loads for me and made me feel very welcome since I first came and gave me the opportunities to develop even further.
‘To look past that and into the future would be disrespectful.’
Asked if returning to England is a long-term ambition of his, Bellingham added: ‘It’s not something I am thinking about, to be honest.’
Bellingham was named VDV Bundesliga Newcomer of the Season for 2020-21 and was included in the VDV Bundesliga Team of the Season for 2021-22
Despite Dortmund’s loss to Manchester City on Wednesday, he entered the Champions League record books as the English teenager with the most goals in the competition’s history.
Despite the fact that Bellingham is under contract until 2025, Jamie Carragher has already warned that there will be a ‘auction’ for him next summer, with the Stourbridge-born teenager likely able to choose whichever top club he wants.
