Liverpool in hot pursuit to sign £66M midfielder as deadline clock ticks

Liverpool is apparently close to loaning out Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, who has been linked with Arsenal this summer and was on the verge of joining the Gunners in January.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Brazilian midfielder will have a physical with the Reds today ahead of a loan move to Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp looking to bulk up the position before the deadline tonight.

Signed from FC Barcelona for a reported £66m in 2020, Juventus have been looking to offload Arthur for most of the year, with Arsenal reportedly interested in signing the midfielder alongside Everton, however, it is now Liverpool who will bring the South American maestro to the Premier League.

With multiple central midfielders out injured, signing cover in Arthur is a good move from Liverpool, who currently have the likes of Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita out on the treatment table, and bringing in the Juventus star on loan, in particular, is smart business this deadline day.

Liverpool’s midfield problems have been well-documented this season, yet on the final day of the window, the Reds now look set to solve this key issue with the signing of Arthur, who looks set to sign on loan and relieve some of the pressure Klopp’s side are feeling at the moment.

Indeed, Arthur has been a regular for Juventus over the past two years, and with experience playing in the UEFA Champions League as well as the Brazilian national team, Liverpool is signing a solid midfielder to provide cover for the season in what could be a shrewd deal for the Merseyside giants.
