£43m striker reveals Liverpool January transfer plans as Virgil van Dijk expresses happiness

After rumors that Liverpool is working hard to get Virgil van Dijk, a £43 million guy sends a wordless message to him.

Following Holland’s triumph over Senegal, yesterday reported Liverpool transfer target Cody Gakpo texted Virgil van Dijk.

Gakpo has been a standout name in the build-up to the tournament, with numerous rumors swirling about his future.

He is, however, a teammate of Liverpool’s towering No.4 at the international level. And, as Van Dijk celebrated the Netherlands’ 2-0 victory over the African Champions on Instagram, Gakpo responded in kind.

“Up and running,” wrote Van Dijk, to which the PSV Eindhoven man reacted with two emojis: one ‘praise’ emoji, followed by a love heart.

No words are needed from Gakpo, who could well find himself sharing a dressing room with Virgil at the club level, too.

Gakpo scored a goal yesterday, possibly by adding a little more worth to his future sale.

It’s not surprising; it’s what he does. This season, the 23-year-old has been in fantastic form for both club and country.

Indeed, a lot will depend on him and Van Dijk if the Netherlands has a successful World Cup.

The Dutch defense is nice and solid, with choices like Matthijs de Ligt, Nathan Ake, and Stefan de Vrij to complement Virgil.

However, the Liverpool defender remains the primary guy.

He did it again yesterday. Van Dijk remained firm as Ake and de Ligt struggled to get going.

Going ahead, things will be a little different. Holland, who is known for their exceptional offensive talent, appears a touch light this time around.

Gakpo is an exception to this rule. It may only be the first game, but it’s clear why Liverpool is reportedly interested in signing him.

According to Calciomercato, a January move would cost them at least £43 million. As the competition progresses and Van Dijk and Gakpo reunite, that could start looking like a bargain.
