Man United and Juventus have agreed on a fee for the central midfielder, and personal terms are being worked out.
Adrien Rabiot has already been identified by Barcelona manager Xavi as an ‘excellent’ transfer option for a club seeking success.
MEN Sport reported on Monday that United had agreed on a fee with Juventus for Rabiot’s services. The deal would be worth an initial £15 million, rising to £20 million with add-ons.
United is currently negotiating personal terms with Rabiot’s agent and mother, Veronique. As John Murtough was spotted in Turin trying to finalize the deal, this is thought to be the ‘only stumbling block’ between Rabiot and a move to Old Trafford.
The Reds have been embroiled in an ongoing transfer saga with Barcelona regarding a move for Frenkie de Jong. De Jong was highlighted as Erik ten Hag’s top target at the beginning of the window but despite agreeing on a fee in principle with the La Liga giants, progress has ultimately stalled.
The Manchester Evening News understands that there is now an acceptance that alternative midfielders must be pursued with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic another player which United is weighing up a move for. Back in 2018, before becoming Barca manager and retiring from football, Xavi expressed his delight that his former club was interested in a move for Rabiot.
Rabiot, who was still at PSG at the time, was attracting interest from the Catalan club, and Xavi gave his approval to any potential deal. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Xavi stated: “He’s a technical player of the highest caliber.
“At Barcelona, he would be ideal as a central midfielder. He has the potential to make a significant contribution, but that is already speculative.
