Anthony Elanga came only inches short of setting a world record.
The Manchester United rookie had a breakout season in the previous year, scoring three goals while getting regular opportunities from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick. He now aims to keep his status in the first team under new manager Erik ten Hag.
To do this, he is exerting extra effort. There were some spectacular box leaps involved in that, with the Swede recording a new personal best. He is seen in a social media post jumping 63 inches, or slightly over five feet. Only four inches separate that leap from the world record achieved by American personal trainer Chris Spell, who acknowledged that it required months of preparation to accomplish such a jump.
Last season, Elanga made 27 appearances and showed he was up for the big moment by scoring in a Champions League match against Atletico Madrid to give United a much-needed draw. There is competition for the 20-year-old at Old Trafford, which will emphasize the importance of the next preseason.
Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, both of whom Elanga potentially complement, are vying for the wide spots, while Cristiano Ronaldo holds the No. 9 position. The athlete, though, says they look forward to the challenge and that competition brings out the best in them.
