According to an exclusive story on CaughtOffside today, Reece James and Chelsea are in discussions on a new deal.
They assert that negotiations are in progress for a new 5-year contract that includes a “substantial pay raise.”
Given that it is a logical next step for Chelsea, it is not shocking and in fact one of those claims that can be made very easily.
The club eventually discovered that its homegrown talent, like James and Mason Mount, is their finest players after spending significant money on recruiting new players for huge salaries for a couple of seasons.
Given the general pay inflation, they are also currently among the lowest paid, thus it’s critical to binding them to new contracts as quickly as possible.
We haven’t taken any of the James transfer rumors seriously, but we will start to worry if he doesn’t sign within the next six months.
